Spray Tanning
Don't want to expose your skin to the sun's damaging rays, but don't want to miss out on that sun-kissed glow? Sunless tanning is a practical alternative to sunbathing. A perfect option to the traditional dangerous ways of getting a gorgeous tan is to consider an alternative method such as a spray tanning system. Unlike the tanning beds tanning booths or conventional sunbathing, spray tanning uses an FDA approved safe formula to give you a beautiful bronze body. Our sunless tanning products, can give your skin a tanned look without exposing it to harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays.

How do sunless tanning products work?
The active ingredient in our sunless tanning products is dihydroxyacetone (DHA). When applied to the skin, DHA reacts with dead cells in the outermost layer of skin to temporarily darken the skin's appearance. The coloring doesn't wash off, but it gradually fades as the dead skin cells slough off — typically within a few days. The bronzer that you see immediately is the temporary bronzing color. It gives the instant gratification of a tan.  Remember each application of tanning solution will make the color darker.  The DHA phase will develop with in a few hours into a tan that is unique to each person.  When you shower after 8 hours the temporary color will come off but this is the immediate cosmetic bronzer.  What is left behind is a beautiful, sunless tan.  The tanner continues to develop slightly over 24 hours and last 7 days or depending on hydration, exfoliation and natural sweating which varies from person to person.

Choosing the right color at Melise’s
When selecting a DHA solution, personal preference and finished effect will be a matter of personal choice. At Melise’s, we have 3 levels of spray tanning color.  They are the following:
  • Winter Glow-The color is ideal for people seeking their natural summertime glow in the middle of winter or for the “non-tanners.  People who would never think of going in the sun or visiting tanning beds.  Extremely sensitive to the sun.  Usually sunburns easily and not likely to tan.
  • 8%- The “Florida” sun tan. The color level is for people that tan fairly easy.
  • 10%- The “Jamaican” tan. This is level is for individuals that never burn in the sun and has natural darker skin tone.
  • Express Solution tan.  This is a rapid processing DHA, so as opposed to waiting 8 to 12 hours to shower, you should shower off after just 2-3 hours to obtain light tan, 3-4 hours for medium tan, or 5 hours for dark tan.

The Pre-tanning Instruction
  • Cleansing:  Exfoliating is KEY to achieving an even color. For the maximum result, before your session, shower and exfoliate the skin. All the self-tanner in the world will do you no good if it attaches itself to dead skin that is about to come off your body! Use a good exfoliant and loofah sponge in the bath the night before you self-tan to remove these dead skin cells.  Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier.
  • Shaving: Shave the night before.
  • Deodorant:  Do not use deodorant (it will turn your armpit green) and no perfume prior to airbrush tanning.
  • Waxing:  Do not spray tan within 4 days after waxing.  Wax residue will block tanner absorption.
  • Please wear loose clothing, preferably dark in color and slip on shoes.
  • Remove jewelry (and don't put it back on until a few hours after your tan)!
  • Please get pedicures/manicures before you tan.
